May 7, 2004, Newsletter Issue #161: ASSESS YOUR SKILLS

Tip of the Week

The best thing for a player (or a coach) to do, is to find out what things you (or your team) do well and do them often. Evaluate the fundamentals of footwork, dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as individual and team defense.
Analyze cognitive skills such as the understanding of spacing, passing angles, shot selection, and proper timing.
A comprehensive skills assessment can give players an idea on what they are very good at, what they do adequately, and what they need to improve on before relying on them during a game.
An evaluation like this can be found at
The team can then take all of the players individual skills and mold them into a philosophy that will benefit everyone.
