October 31, 2003, Newsletter Issue #134: IT`S AN ATTITUDE !

Tip of the Week

I see players who continue making the same mistakes over and over again, because they will not allow themselves to be coached due to the absence of a good attitude. They go through 4 years of high school and do not show much improvement, generally, because their attitude is their biggest obstacle.

The off-season is the best time to work on improving your skills. You don’t have to worry about how you will perform in a game; you just practice, practice, practice!(correctly). In order to change bad habits, like shooting incorrectly, you must WANT to change… you must practice only the correct way, and focus on that skill. If you continue to use your incorrect shooting form, and only use correct shooting form in practice during certain drills, nothing will change. You must commit yourself to making a change. Great players did not become great overnight… they practiced until they did it right! They made themselves great players through practice and have an A+ attitude. So, players… get out and practice!!! And keep that A+ attitude!!!
