The Basketball Hall of Fame, or Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Springfield Massachusetts. It was named after James Naismith, who invented the sport at Springfield College. The first class of members were inducted in 1959. There are currently 326 members.
Springfield, Massachusetts is in the western part of the state. The city has 4 colleges in the surrounding areas, but has been a haven for crime and poverty in recent years. Springfield College, American International College, Springfield Technical Community College, and Western New England College. There is rumored to be a casino moving in the area which could boost business and see higher employment rates evolve. However, this has not been confirmed and the city has yet to make building plans as of yet. MassMutual, Marriott and the Basketball Hall of Fame itself are some of the most successful and thriving businesses still in the area.
