August 29, 2003, Newsletter Issue #125: GOOD SCREEN! GREAT BOUNCE PASS! OPEN JUMP SHOT! - NOT SPORTS CENTER HIGHLIGHTS

Tip of the Week

Young players are so influenced by the plays that create the excitement of the crowd and the sportscasters, they tend to spend more time on fancy dribbling, no look passes, and dunk attempts. In reality, they should be spending more time developing solid dribbling fundamentals, seeing the floor well enough to make the next and easiest pass, and the ability to make an open mid range jump shot.
While practicing the exciting things may be increasing ballhandling or jumping ability, and may have it`s place as a part of a workout routine, it does little to directly help a team win games.
