Proper Ball Flight Control

Read this tip to make your life smarter, better, faster and wiser. LifeTips is the place to go when you need to know about Basketball Shooting and other Basketball topics.

How do you get better ball flight control when you shoot.

Proper Ball Flight Control

You want to keep your eye on the target(the rim) throughout the shot. You want to hold the release an extra half second to a second to increase to provide prober rotation of your shot. An automatic and predictable release and follow through makes all shots easier and gives you more control of your shot. As you land, you want to come down exactly where you started your jump or sightly in front of where you started.

Good post. I myself am a sharp shooter some might say. And my 2 cents on this post would be its all in your wrist! Snap your wrist every time you release, and always have arc on your shot. These 2 challenges are the reason my shot ever gets off. Fatigue is normally the culprit for both above mentioned.

Just lay on the floor/bed, shooting the ball into the air with your off hand. Make sure to snap your wrist, the more you build up the coordination in this off hand the better you'll be able to shoot with it.

Yes this tip works, but remember to use your lgs when doing this. If you dont use your legs and just push the ball with your arms it wont work. Small begginner players have this problem. Brian is right about laying on your bed thing. Flick your wrists!

good point marissa. Once you have built up the coordination in your off hand, and you begin to apply it in a practice/game situation, you definitely want to use your legs in your shot.
