What is good defensive position?

Half a Man Ahead

When guarding the dribbler, your head should be even with the ball, which puts you slightly ahead of the man you are guarding. Make the dribbler turn and change directions. This will slow him down and make it more difficult for the dribbler to beat you.

This is a great tip and should be used only when the dribbler is out of his/her shooting range. ex. full court man to man pressure. Once the dribbler is in his/her range, the defender should make his/her defensive stance a little higher because now the dribbler can drive by you or shoot. If you are still in the low defensive stance, you as the defender will give the dribbler an easier vision of shooting because of your low defensive stance. By you switching your stance to the medium area, you should be able to adjust to his/her jump shot or offensive move in enough time. Just work on your foot speed because the offensive player is in striking zone.
